Adjective Definition

   •    An adjective:

   •    is a word used to modify, or describe, a noun or a pronoun

   •    describes the quality, state, or action that a noun refers to

   •    can come before or after a noun

   •    can come after a verb

   •    can be modified by an adverb

   •    can be used as a complement to a noun

 

 

Adjective Types

   •    attributive adjective

   •    comes before a noun

   •    comparative adjective

   •    used to compare two things

   •    predicative adjective

   •    comes after a copula or linking verb and not before a noun

   •    superlative adjective

   •    shows which thing has that quality above or below the level of the others

   •    past participle adjective

   •    formed from a verb using the perfect aspect and the passive voice

   •    present participle adjective

   •    formed from a verb using the present participle or "ing" form of the verb
