Adverb Definition

   •    An adverb is a word that modifies the meaning of other words

   •    An adverb can modify a:

   •    noun - adverb modifying a noun

   •    pronoun - adverb modifying a pronoun

   •    verb - adverb modifying a verb

   •    adverb - adverb modifying an adverb

   •    adjective - adverb modifying an adjective

   •    phrase - adverb modifying a noun phrase

   •    sentence - adverb modifying a sentence

   •    An adverb can also be used as a:

   •    complement

   •    preposition

   •    An adverb has specific spelling rules

 

 

Adverb Types

   •    conjunctive adverb

   •    shows the relationship between, and join together, two sentences or clauses

   •    degree adverb

   •    increases or decreases the effect of the verb

   •    manner adverb

   •    shows how an action is performed

   •    place or location adverb

   •    shows where the action of a verb is done

   •    time adverb

   •    shows when an action takes place, the frequency of an action, or the duration of an action
